- How do I get rid of nuisance algae?

When dealing with nuisance algae, people will tell you various ways to try different methods. Before we suggest our solution that actually worked, you should try the following:

1. Check your water parameters

-Check that your RODI reads 0ppm with a TDS meter.

-Clear/clean out your membrane or have it changed when maintenance is due. Also check your filters.

2. Make sure nothing is rotting/decaying in your tank

3. Check your phosphates. Running a phosban reactor might be a good idea.

4. Try these hermits that many suggest:

E merald Crab              Scarlet Hermit              Blue-legged Hermit     Electric Blue Hermit      Mexican Turbo Snail

Or try the hermits that worked for us

Dwarf Zebra Hermits

We actually tried every single one of these hermits, but the one that worked best for us was the Dwarf Zebra Hermit crab. Despite the fact that they worked best, we can honestly say the Scarlet Hermit or the Electric Blue Hermit do look much better in your tank. Dwarf Zebra Hermits may not be the most colorful, but they were like lawnmowers when dealing with nuisance algae. Make sure to to buy some extra empty shells, Dwarf Zebras don't grow too big so they are easier to maintain.
